It has been 51 years since Futsal arrived in Japan. There are currently 200,000 people enjoying this particular sport and the immense popularity saw the formation of the professional Futsal league (F.League) in 2007. With the popularity comes the problem of accommodating pitch spaces. Although there are over 1,000 Futsal pitches in Japan, most of them are located on roofs of high-rises as well as spaces between buildings. This is a phenomenon unique to a country where space is a premium.
